It's been a couple of weeks since our glorious tenth anniversary trip to Sayulita, Mexico. We had such a good time there. The town is such a breath of fresh air and very different from our previous trips to Cabo and Riviera Maya.
We stayed in the villa pictured above, Casa Palmar. It was so beautifully decorated with concrete floors and walls, painted concrete tiles and an outdoor kitchen, bathroom and patio that overlooked the beach. They have a larger villa for bigger groups (on the first two floors), that is equally beautiful and accommodating. We will hopefully go there again when we take the girls. I've loved Mexican decor for a long time, and I was so inspired by the villa caddy corner to us. This may be where I retire...
We also stumbled upon this adorable inn called Mi Pueblita that had just opened. They have this stunning courtyard and pool. It looked like a wonderful place to stay also.
I just couldn't get enough of all of the hand carved wooden benches and furniture
The other wonderful surprise was all of the amazing shops in town. We visited so many, I've forgotten most of their names, but we came home with blankets, pillows and a comforter for Mila's soon to be big girl bed, ceramics, and wooden carvings. It was all so wonderfully priced and well made. When Marco and I were first married, we would take trips to Reynosa to shop and buy decor for our first apartment. We haven't been able to do that in several years, but we definitely made up for lost time.
The fishing was AH-MAZ-ING! I've never been fishing like that before, where you throw your line in and real in a big fish, and then another, and another. Our sashimi and ceviche fed us for more than a couple of our meals.
For our anniversary, we took a day trip to the Marrietas Islands and the Hidden Beach. It's a car trip back into Puerto Vallarta to catch the boat, but it was so so worth it. These beaches are environmentally protected, and very secluded but it was such a nice thing to do to commemorate our tenth anniversary. We paid for the photography package and came back with so many amazing shots.
If you're thinking of taking a trip to Mexico, I highly recommend Sayulita. It's just such a breath of fresh air. This eclectic surf town is so rich in culture, nightlife, food, people and just plain fun. I hope this blog post has captured the essence of the town and makes you want to visit very soon!
